At the New Century Institute of Learning, we are unique in the style and the special manner in which we practise the English Secondary and High School subsystem of education in Cameroon.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCPAL
“When the idea of moving from a primary to a secondary school was conceived, I must confess we were absolutely sceptical and a little hesitant to take the first step. That was because we did not just want to offer the kind of Anglo-Saxon system of education most schools in our country offer. Consequently, we had to carefully design a program which would take into consideration the exigencies of the 21st century to give our students wider scopes upon leaving college. As such, our programs were categorized into arts and the sciences with so much emphasis laid on information and communication technology and complete e-learning programs for all our classes. We have tried these systems over the years and the feedback from parents has been extremely heart-warming and quite encouraging.
The system of education we give does not only fine tune the skills of the students from an educational perspective, but equally pays very close attention to moral values because we believe that for a system of education to be described as holistic, there must be the blend between education and morality. Our students are taught values such as self-worth, mutual respect, community participation and team spirit wherein we constantly remind them that we stress these values to make them unique and easily identifiable as products of our system anywhere they are found in the world.
Bearing in mind the daunting nature of such a task, we have made it as a permanent duty to constantly partner with parents through meetings, consultative talks and correspondences to keep them abreast with innovations we carry out as well as giving them opportunities to always contribute their quota to help keep us where are now and where we intend to be some years from now (a reference of academic excellence in the real sense of it).
With the seasoned professionals we have, committed to innovative methods of teaching and pedagogy, we use this medium to reassure parents that we shall never relent in giving out the best to mould our learners to brace the challenges of the world in the 21st century. NEW CENTURY INSTITUTE OF LEARNING better known by the acronym NCIL is the secondary section of the New Century Schools System created at the behest of parents who demonstrated the utmost desire for their children to continue with the extremely sound and refined system of education they acquired at our nursery and primary school section.
NCIL is a typically Anglo-Saxon school that runs from Form 1-5, for the secondary section, and Lower and Upper Sixth forms for the second cycle, otherwise known as the high school section.
NCIL operates both sciences and arts subjects with completely integrating the curriculum designed by the government to suit end-of-course examinations. However, we have tailored the curriculum of NCIL to suit, not just the needs of end-of-course examinations organized internally, but also to suit those organized externally as well. We have equally tailored NCIL’s curriculum to suit the demands of today’s highly digitalised system of education.
We run the academic year according to the official calendar established by the state. Traditionally, the nine months program is broken down into three terms, namely:
• FIRST TERM;
• SECOND TERM;
• THIRD TERM.
Wherein each term usually ends with an end-of-term examination.
However, in NCIL, we redesigned the method of evaluation to get our students evaluated every month and given a well-established report card. This in no way cancels the term’s examinations. At the end of the academic year, students write and pass an end-of-year exam (which evaluates their knowledge on the topics covered throughout the academic year) to gain promotion to the next class, for those in non-examinations classes. Meanwhile, students in examination classes write the end-of-course examinations organized by The Cameroon General Certificate of Education Examination Board.
The curriculum and the new study plan of the New Century Institute of Learning do not only deal with re-organisation, but also with the upgrading of the old program to a new perspective. Its subjects’ content having as ultimate goal the development of key competences that cut across the national base, and of the units of learning built around the centres of interest.
These centres of interest are places for the expression of skills developed over a given learning period around carefully chosen themes with a view to creating close links between equitable, inclusive, high standards of quality education and sustainable development.
A dynamic school should be an integral part of this revolution. The New Century Institute of Learning is conscious of this fact and does not afford to lag behind.

It is worth noting that these two functional courses are designed specifically
to meet the needs of language proficiency, which is a major tool of
communication for both Science and Arts students
In accordance with the action plan elaborated by the Ministry of Secondary Education, the school provides the staff and parents with a calendar containing the dates of the activities to be carried out throughout the year to enable them to follow-up permanently, the pedagogic and extracurricular activities of the learners (cf. http://newcenturyschoolssystem.education/academic-calendar/).
As far as the recruitment of teachers is concerned, any person, regardless of gender or tribe, holding at least a First Degree diploma or equivalent, can apply to the New Century Institute of Learning. We organize recruitment in August, by way of a written and oral test in pedagogy and their respective teaching subject(s).
• School uniform (compulsory for all students) is to be worn with black shoes and white socks.
• Natural hair, short and combed or braided for girls.
• Shaved hair for boys.
